Why gestures?

You've used mouse gestures before.

Every time you drag a file to another folder to move or copy it, that's a gesture. In gMote, gestures can be simple shapes or complex symbols that you draw on the screen to achieve an action that would normally take longer. For example, you might record a gesture that when drawn in Windows Mail creates a new message and fills in an e-mail address.

By default, drawing a gesture is as simple as holding the right button down and dragging (other methods are available).

You might record a "W" shape to launch your favourite browser, a circle to enter your name, an "S" to invoke the Start Menu, a "P" to print, an up-arrow to maximise the active window... almost any common task can be automated with gMote gestures, and you'll find it a faster way to access those functions.

Just draw.

Still hunting for shortcuts?

Your gestures can be whichever shapes make sense to (or just amuse) you. But it could be like this:

This is how I get to my website.

This is how I send an e-mail.

This is how I maximise a window.

This is how I fill out my phone number.

You can even use gMote from a portable drive to launch the programs stored on it, irrespective of the drive letter assigned.

From common tasks...

Basic gMote "actions" include: window manipulation, clipboard functions, media player controls, common web browser functions, Windows features including Accessibilty, Run, Lock, Search, and more.

... to complex automation

Ctrl+Shift+what?

Most programs offer shortcut keys for quick access to features, but it's hardly "short" if you can't remember which fingers go where. So your two favourite photo editors use different shortcuts for "Resize"? Create a gesture, assign "Ctrl+R" for one program and "Shift+S" for the other. Done.

The keys have it.

What if there's a function you can't access with one key alone? Use the "Keystrokes" action in gMote to assign a series of key presses and text. One gesture could create an e-mail, fill in the address and move the cursor down to the "Subject" box.

Donate

I graduated recently and many thanks for the UK education system for giving me a whole load of student debt. I make gMote available for free because I think it's a good way to get experience and "get my name out there", but it would be great if you could show your appreciation with a small donation =). This form will take you to PayPal, which is safe and secure.

Whatever you think it's worth, please let me know!
