gMote 1.33

It's update time!
- gMote now uses "relative paths", so you can use it from a USB memory stick or portable hard drive to other run programs on those devices, regardless of the drive letter assigned when you attach them to a computer. Because all settings are saved locally (the only registry key is for "Always run at startup"), they'll go wherever you take gMote =).
- Some long overdue bugfixes: the "timeout" tick box, needing Admin privilege for startup option and crashing when right- then left-clicking in the test area.
Give it a go!

Hello. Very pleased that feature I asked about (program parameters) is already available, thanks. :-p
So tested, it works great, even with parameters with spaces (so enclosed with "" )
But 2 remarks on program launching :
- the working directory is the gmote.exe directory. Try for example : "cmd.exe /k dir" and you'll see gmote directory content. The problem is that mostly a program (like the one we develop) like to be launch in his own directory (in the example cmd.exe should display the system32 directory content). So I don't know what rule you're going to choose : always start in the program directory or let the gmote user change this setting ?
- second remarks :
in Vista, because gmote has elevated privileges, the program is also launched with this elevated privileges, which is not a good idea for lot of reasons. I don't know how you can start another program with low privileges but it will be a good idea to take a look at it.
Once again : very nice program, I use it for about 1 month and it's a real addition. Good job Craig. You can ask me if you need more informations (or more ideas :-p ).
Another remark : I think for a better "first use" experience, you should add another .mtd file by default, with more gestures. So new users can do lot of things by default. Can't you add somewhere a forum to let gmote users say what gestures they often use ?

Very nice program!! I have tried at least five mouse gesture program and this one is the best by far. I tried mglaunch which had what I was looking for, a launch program by using mouse gesture. However it was not reliable when running the menu. I added a launch program with gmote and everything is working fine, except for one thing. Drawing the mouse gesture on Vista doesn't draw a complete line. I think the answer to this problem is not to have the program draw the gesture on the screen in Vista. I will try this out and see if it works. If there is something else I need to try instead of this, please advise. Great program!!

Yes, the line isn't complete if things are redrawn underneath it. For some reason the Vista "Aero" interface slows down the graphics that gMote uses, so you have to tick that box in the "Options" dialog, and then put up with bits of gesture disappearing when buttons change state, pages scroll, movies play etc. But it should only happen rarely...

Thanks pcb, I'll take a look at adding a "working directory" setting to the program launcher =). As for privileges, the latest gMote only uses the "local user" registry settings, do you still need to run it as Admin?

I can't get the program to work. I can't click on anything in the command box. I'm using a (convertible) tablet PC with Vista Ultimate. This looks exactly like what I've been looking for, though, if I can get it to work

Hi Craig, great program you've done, kudos for aestetics and ergonomis and minimalism.
The only limitation I find a little frustrating is robustness of the gestures reckognition.. I am comparing gMote response with Opera gestures, which are simplier formed (pre-learned) but more robust to use..
I guess one can also adapt to make the gestures more repeatable, but this is not the right way to do it..
My suggestion would be to make the recording gesture function more fuzzy-logic like... Mabe to add an option of recording more gestures for one action and then averaging the learnmed gesture with its tolerances ?
I'm just brauinstorming for an easy solution, please take this as a compliment to jour program. I think your interface has a enorm potential, especially when applied to tablet applications.

Thank you for what you're doing, and... Merry Christmas!
A gMote user.
P.S.: Oh, and... Please, keep on composing music! =)

If you've technical issues, a better way to contact me is by e-mail (see contacts page) - I'm not very good at checking these pages! Not sure what cause of no-clicking is, did you find a fix? Merry Christmas and thanks to you to T3. Max/restore is a fair idea, I'll take a look. And PepaR, that feature is in the next update :D.

Hi,
I really enjoy your program! It's so great to use it with my tablet pc! Anyway, I do have o admit I have som issues with recognizing gestures. Inside of gMote the recognision is perfect, but if I use it in another program I often will have to do the gesture multiple times for it to be recognized. I am using Vista btw, in case this has something to do with it. I do not use gesture trails at all.
Also I have a feature request! If you could add a "always on top" modifier it would be great! Now I have to use a second program to define a shortcut for always on top, then have gMote linked to this shortcut which is not a perfect solution at all..
I have to say, you have done a great job! I really like the program, and it is very intuitive and easy to use. Keep up the good work, I hope you will continue working on this project, and make it the best program out there, it certainly has the potential!
say what?
