gMote 1.30

If you want to use it like you did before, you can. If you want to add special rules and exceptions, or even make one gesture behave differently in a hundred different programs, you can!

Give it a try.

Nin hao! ) big thanks for u work man) i very like this programm. I have some trables. I cant add my x64 autodesk 3dmax 2009 on differently list. Alt tab function cant see process, and manual addendum through a browse working. You can fix this? Or that I am doing something wrong? Thank you very much for understanding, hope to answer =) Good luck
CraigFriday 15th August 2008 @ am
You mean ALT+TAB can't see gMote, or can't see 3d max? And is adding through "Browse..." really working, or did you mean not working? :)
SergeyFriday 15th August 2008 @ pm
apologize for my bad English =), I mean the view that adding max to "browse..." through gestures do not work. Thanks)

set key combination ALT+LEFT or ALT+RIGHT, can't back or forward
AnastasTuesday 19th August 2008 @ pm
Thanks for a great program again! I just wanted you to know - Ctrl-(key) combinations still don't work in Adobe Illustrator (CS3).
StevenSunday 24th August 2008 @ am
Nice update Craig, thank you!
StevenSunday 24th August 2008 @ am
Really works perfect with my applications. It's becoming better than strokeit. I'm donating now;-)
StevenSunday 24th August 2008 @ am
Donation sent...really not much but enough for a beer:-) Keep up the good work!
joshSunday 24th August 2008 @ am
phenomenal program that i've been using for a while, and it just got much better. the per-application gesturing is great as well.
AndrewThursday 28th August 2008 @ am
Thank u for this new update of the program. I want to ask you a thing. It's very useful for me to use the right mouse button for the gestures, but with this method i can't drag the icons in the desktop with the right mouse button... in another version of the program, will it possible to drag the icons with the right mouse button?
jasonFriday 29th August 2008 @ am
why do you need to drag them with the right mouse button? couldn't you use the left mouse button? As for the program, it works very well, but recently, it's been taking up 30 MB of RAM - way too much for a small program like this. also, it seems like it takes a lot longer to save in the newest version
CraigFriday 29th August 2008 @ am
Yeah it does take longer because of some compression, but I figured people wouldn't mind so much... And the RAM is down to my memory structures, which I'm sure could be more efficient. Yes it will conflict with right-drags, and the only way to prevent that would be for gMote to examine the contents of what you're dragging, which would mean some Explorer extension... it's not a tempting prospect. Maybe you could use Ctrl+Right click for gMote?
AndrewSaturday 30th August 2008 @ pm
For Jason: When I use the right mouse button I can decide if the files must be copied, moved or create a link. Otherwise if I use the left mouse button, sometimes copy the file and in other cases create a link of the program.
jasonSunday 31st August 2008 @ am
andrew: i understand you now. that does seem to be an issue if you're using the right mouse button with gmote. i use gmote with the middle button (scroll). i don't have this issue, however, because i use strokeit with the right button. strokeit has a programmable timeout feature, so if i don't do anything in a given time frame (i use 250 ms), it basically deactivates, so i can drag files AND get that context menu that i/you want. perhaps a timeout feature could be added. it does make it a bit of a pain when i want to do this, but the short wait is well worth it for the program's functionality. another possible option would be to add a way to disable gmote temporarily (by holding down the control key, for example). i'm not trying to plug strokeit, but it also offers this function.
Ruurd BoekeMonday 1st September 2008 @ pm
great program! One issue though: when I do the gesturing with the middle mouse button, in most programs this will move the window itself. And that is not something that you can easily disable. So the only option that works for me at this moment is cntrl-shift plus gesture. Maybe make this more configurable? So I could decide myself what key combination works for me?
CheeseyWednesday 3rd September 2008 @ pm
I discovered gMote a while ago and I really like it very much! The only thing I miss is an option to have a certain gesture set bind to a special application. So you have gMote running and if you make a right-gesture in the browser, you go forward, in AutoCAD you start drawing a line etc. such as stroke it :)
CheeseyWednesday 3rd September 2008 @ pm
Sorry, I just installed 1.3... I love you! :) P.S.: If you could manage to set not only key-combinations but key-strokes (like [ALT-DOWN]P[ALT-UP]S[ENTER], this program would be perfect!!!
RayThursday 4th September 2008 @ am
Great program, thanks. Do you have a set of preconfigured gestures that I could download to get started?
wanshbThursday 4th September 2008 @ am
cannot run @ vista home premium! i have tried any version of gmote, but the same problem is that i can't configure and creat any gestures. The only operation i can do is right click and then exit this program. Can u solve it?
HPUFriday 5th September 2008 @ pm
- make the main gesture-button depend on set-able time (e.g. 250ms pressing the right mouse button) - one action can have several gestures - gestures start key-strokes in a certain pattern (e.g.: Hello World!{CONTROL_DOWN}s{CONTROL_UP}{ENTER} /to write "Hello World! into a document and save it)
AndrewFriday 5th September 2008 @ pm
Jason, HPU. Thanks
MertschFriday 5th September 2008 @ pm
One thing that really really really prevents me from using this application is one option. And that is a whitelisting behaviour I really dont like having to manually disable guestures in e.g. games ... I want them off be default and only enabled for those applications that make sense ... so please add this feature just like strokeit does implement it
SridharSaturday 6th September 2008 @ am
Is there anyway I can make this work with Google Chrome?
PaulSunday 7th September 2008 @ am
Seems to work fine with Chrome. Only thing I cannot get working is previous tab in both FF3 and Chrome. Apart from that excellent app and true successor to StrokeIt!
AndréSunday 7th September 2008 @ am
Support for Mertsch's idea with the whitelisting instead of blacklisting. That would be really cool. Anyway, great new release. keep on the good work. andré, p.s. what's up with the forum ;)
CraigSunday 7th September 2008 @ pm
gMote already kind of has this feature, in that you can set a gesture to "do nothing" globally, and just assign actions for a few applications. wanshb - I don't understand it: I developed gMote using Vista Home Premium! Is it conflicting with some other software? What else is running? Ray and HPU - those are both good ideas and I'll get on it. And yeah... I clearly need a forum.
YanickSunday 7th September 2008 @ pm
This is really great. Works very well on Vista. How about adding a way to cancel a gesture. Right now, if I want to cancel a gesture instead of executing it, I need to mess up the gesture so gmote won't recognize it anymore. How about if I could right-click before releasing the left click button to cancel the gesture?
CraigMonday 8th September 2008 @ am
You can cancel a gesture by moving the cursor to the edge of the screen, where it will turn red =). Then let go of the button!
joshFriday 12th September 2008 @ am
Cheesey - strokeit can do that. or, you can have gmote execute a script that inputs that key sequence (it's a little roundabout, but i do that. i make scripts with autohotkey that specifically do small commands or key inputs like that)
davisFriday 12th September 2008 @ am
I only have 3 created gestures but gmote routinely fails to recognize them. These gestures do not appear similar. It would help to somehow change the sensitivity of the drawing recognition based upon the existing gestures.
AndréSunday 14th September 2008 @ am
i found a little bug. with a stroke i want to send the key combo: ctrl+alt+shift+right, but it doesn't seem to work, as it misses the shift, so that it only sends ctrl+alt+right. regards, André
RobertMonday 15th September 2008 @ am
I'm using it at home on my XP but it doesn't work at all on my Vista laptop. I'm not able to draw cruves only straight lines and it is really slow... Any idea ?
JoMonday 15th September 2008 @ am
gMote is great. The only thing that could improve it for me would be the possibility to be able to press a key to temporarily disable gestures. E.g. I press Alt and as long as I hold it gMote is disabled. Now I can use the right mouse button to drag and drop files instead of having gMote handling mouse movements as gestures. Keep up the good work! Jo
joshWednesday 17th September 2008 @ am
Similar to Robert's issue, when I put gmote on a different computer I use (XP), I get a delayed initiation of the gesture trail and it's blocky in the beginning. It smooths out after a second, but perhaps it's because the machine is not so fast and has a generic video card. Just speculation, but perhaps it's an issue with video RAM.
CraigWednesday 17th September 2008 @ am
Robert - for vista you need to use "fast trails" in the options window. Something to do with the Aero interface, because if you switch it off it will be much faster. Try either!
RobWednesday 17th September 2008 @ pm
Thanks for a great program. I'd like to make a couple of feature suggestions: 1 - enable the option to set a timeout on gestures so if you mess one up you can just wait for it to time out. 2 - Have the tray icon change appearance when gMote is disabled 3 - allow the user to give each action a description, and show that rather than the action + key on the recognition popup (some of my gestures look the same so need a description...) 4 - allow the user to set the recognition popup timeout length - the default is a little too long for me. Thanks Rob
JoFriday 19th September 2008 @ am
How about click-only "rocker" gesture support? I practically only use gestures for back and forward, and rocker gestures are great for this purpose.
PengeTuesday 23rd September 2008 @ am
+1 (rocker gestures)

gmote does not seem to work on my secondary monitor
ntWednesday 24th September 2008 @ pm
Hi this release of gmote is a good step in the right direction. I was wandering if you could tell us what you have planned for the next release and roughly when you plan to make it available.
CraigThursday 25th September 2008 @ am
rb - I bet your primary monitor is on the right side, right? It's an ongoing issue :(.
rbThursday 25th September 2008 @ am
Yes, my primary monitor is on the right side. It's OK if I put it on the left side. Thanks
PaulThursday 25th September 2008 @ pm
From a long time Strokeit user, it works great. Only thing I miss is ability to put in a whole string of characters, not just a single one. Any possiblity of this happening?
DanMonday 29th September 2008 @ pm
Hello, Nice piece of software! Please make it open links in new tabs/windows in Firefox and I may give up Strokeit. Can you do it? Thanks.
Sara ThompsonWednesday 1st October 2008 @ pm
Has gMote been tested with any Photoshop products? I am using Photoshop Elements 6 (and Vista), and haven't gotten gMote to work. Seems to work in MSWord just fine. It would be a great product for my tablet pc. Thanks.
CraigThursday 2nd October 2008 @ am
You could make it open new tabs by using the "Browser: New tab" action. What do you mean by opening links? It would be difficult to detect links as you draw a gesture because all browsers handle that internally... Paul, I'm working on the string thing..... and Sara, do you see some errors in Photoshop, do any of the actions work? I clearly need a forum...
octaedro7Saturday 4th October 2008 @ am
First of all many thanks for gmote. Features I would like to see (probably many others): -Rocker (mouse) wheel. This one is part of stokeit and I'm sure that the mayority of guys using gestures comes from strokeit. -Key strokes -Smaller footprint. 32mb are simply too much, even though the average amount of Ram in today's computers is going higher it's allways good to be as light as possible. -Agree with the different tray Icon to indicate (in)active state -Last but not least a FORUM. Again your application is the only seriuos Strokeit sucesor out there. That is certainly something. In fact gmote have several nice improvements. Those of us who come from SI, used to control almost anything with gestures need to have at least the same configuration possibilities. It's just like learning to talk again. Hope I haven't offend you with the comparison. Regards
octaedro7Saturday 4th October 2008 @ am
One last thing: -Always on top command, extremely useful!!
joshSaturday 4th October 2008 @ pm
Dan - there are several extensions that modify clicking in firefox. first, there's mouse gestures redox. that allows for browser-specific gestures in firefox. second, if you want to change the way tabs/links are opened, tab mix plus is the best extension for giving you a ton of options for clicking.
AlexWednesday 8th October 2008 @ pm
I love gMote! I have a few questions though. Is it possible to set up a motion to a) shutdown windows and/or b) scroll to the top/bottom of a page?
joshThursday 9th October 2008 @ am
Alex - for most programs, control + home and control + end are used to go to the top/bottom of pages. so, you can have it send those as key combinations in gmote
MarkSunday 12th October 2008 @ am
